The essence of the Spear of Russ . . .
For anyone who’s had the pleasure of experiencing the Warhammer 40,000 gaming universe they know how rich and diverse the stories are which represent the Adeptus Astartes (i.e. Space Marines). And one of the favorites of all the Space Marine Chapters within this 40K universe are the Space Wolves of Fenris.
As their legends have it . . . Leman Russ, the founder of the Space Wolves, carried with him a powerful energy charged spear to do battle with all those who looked to eradicate mankind from the universe. This “Spear of Russ” is an honored and revered symbol to all Space Wolves throughout their history. This is also the same spear that the young Ragnar Blackmane threw into a gaping warp hole to stem the flow of the Chaos hoards spilling through it. It’s also the reason Ragnar Blackmane eventually found his way into the Chaos realm, and with the help of the lost 13th Company retrieve this priceless artifact and return it to the possession of the Chapter.
This sculpture is my interpretation of the Spear of Russ . . . and for all those who are Space Wolves at heart, I hope this helps you connect to the chapter you hold so dear.
